A group of witherite crystals on matrix, from the classic Flourspar District of Illinois.  

Although the mines in this area are best known for fluorite, they also produced a number of exceptional carbonate minerals-- witherite, strontianite and benstonite, to name a few.  

The last mine in the area closed in 1994.
