JU209 Stibnite
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
8.6x 5.4x 4.9 cm
$485

A hard to find example of Peruvian stibnite, from the Quiruvilca mine. This piece is composed of multiple intersecting sprays of lustrous crystals. Given the brittle nature of the species and the thin habit of the crystals, there is damage, but for a piece like this there is no way to escape that. Actually, it is one of the best examples that I have seen from the locality, and certainly one of the better stibnites that I’ve seen from Peru. The others I have seen are either too tightly packed (that’s how they survived the journey from Peru) or too damaged.
