SD07 SD07 Rhodochrosite
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Prov., Lima Dept., Peru
10.0x 8.5x 4.2 cm

A very rich cabinet specimen of rhodochrosite, hosting numerous dog-tooth crystals to __ cm.  The color is a bit paler than than the deep red-pink that the mine is famous for; this seems to have been the case with many pieces from this pocket.

This piece is unusual for the number of crystals, their elongated habit, and the close packing.  Typically there are only a few crystals, generally well interspersed-- this one is somewhat richer.
