Xianyang, Yongchun Co., Fujian Fluorite!

A selection of fluorite specimens from a recent find at the Xiayang Mine (the same locality notable for the purple tanzanite-colored fluorites).  I purchased a large quantity of these fluorites, the bulk were wholesale grade, but these were a few that I picked out for one reason or another.  The color of pieces from this group are a somewhat saturated green, and the best have an intense glow caused by cyan blue, yellow, and green zoning, combing to form a color I haven't really seen from anywhere else.

With all of these, lighting is an important factor-- the color is most saturated under indirect sunlight or equivalent lighting, and the pieces are shown as they would appear sitting on a white piece of paper next to a window in indirect sunlight.  If you look at them under incandescent lighting however, you will be very underwhelmed.....

XYG01 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
13.8x 10.3x 3.7 cm
$850

A beautiful plate of dodecahedral fluorite crystals from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, a number of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.  The main crystals on this plate have that color, the rest are more of a crisp green.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

I have never seen this rich he from another place-- not Illinois, not France.  I bought a huge lot of the material, and there were not many pieces like this-- most were that duller gray-green.

XYG02 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
8.4x 5.7x 3.2 cm
$200

A beautiful specimen of fluorite crystals from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a somewhat undersaturated gray green, some of them have deeper, more saturated green color.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

The color and transparency of this one are better than the pictures show.

XYG03 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
6.0x 4.6x 3.6 cm
$325

A beautiful fluorite crystal (contacted on the reverse) with a bit of attached quartz,  from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

XYG04 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
7.2x 6.0x 4.6 cm
$335

A beautiful partial fluorite crystal  from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

This is not a complete crystal and there are a couple blemishes, but the color is just so incredibly that I am posting it anyway.  I have not seen this color from anywhere else-- not even the brightest blues from Southern Illinois have the same glow that is added by the combination of green, yellow, and bluish zones that some of these crystals have.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

XYG05 Fluorite on Quartz
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
7.0x 4.5x 3.4 cm
$195

A nice example from a different pocket, this one has a rather large, deep green fluorite dodecahedron on a plate of quartz crystals.  There is a bit of chipping near the top, but it displays as shown.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

A beautiful fluorite crystal on matrix from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

This is a complete crystal (there weren't many)  though it does have a chip on one tip.

While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

I have not seen this color from anywhere else-- not even the brightest blues from Southern Illinois have the same glow that is added by the combination of green, yellow, and bluish zones that some of these crystals have.

11.9x 8.1x 3.5 cm
$295

A beautiful partial fluorite crystal from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

This is not a complete crystal, but the color is just so incredible that I am posting it anyway.  I have not seen this color from anywhere else-- not even the brightest blues from Southern Illinois have the same glow that is added by the combination of green, yellow, and bluish zones that some of these crystals have.  The quartz association makes it quite beautiful as well.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, very few of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.

This is cleaved on the top right (it's hidden somewhat by bits of matrix attached to this area)  but the color is excellent.  I have not seen this color from anywhere else-- combination of green, yellow, and bluish hues is unlike anything I've seen from anywhere else.

This is not a complete crystal and there are a couple blemishes, but it displays well from one side (that is, it looks reasonably complete from that angle) and it has a somewhat darker blue green color.  I have not seen this color from anywhere else-- not even the brightest blues from Southern Illinois have the same glow that is added by the combination of green, yellow, and bluish zones that some of these crystals have.

XYG30 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
3.2x 2.9x 2.0 cm
$160

A very beautiful "box buster" thumbnail of fluorite on quartz from the recent find, with lighter bluish-green.  This thing just barely fits in the box, but it closes just fine.  It is exceedingly difficult to find good thumbnail sized specimens of Chinese fluorite.  The crystals always come as large plates, attached to each other or chunks of matrix in such a way that it would be nearly impossible to get a good thumbnail.  This is my favorite thumbnail (and the only one of this habit that I was able to salvage) from a huge lot of the material.
